Which of the two pinks you want

Magenta is our best seller and has been for a long time. It's a deep, powerful pink with blue in it, not a sweet pink and definitely not a Barbie pink, and it keeps its depth as it fades. Shocking Pink is the brightest pink we make, hotter and more fluorescent, and it's the one that photographs loudly. If you want a pink people notice from the other side of a room, that's Shocking Pink. If you want a pink that still looks deliberate six washes in, that's Magenta.

What your hair has to be before pink will show

Pink is a mid-weight pigment, so it does more on unbleached hair than blue does, but not much more. On dark brown hair Magenta gives you a red-pink shine in the light and Shocking Pink gives you very little. For either to look like the tube, your hair needs lightening to a pale yellow first, and our hair bleach kits will do that. As with the rest of the range, these dyes will not cover white or grey hair.

How long pink lasts and how it fades

Around five to seven washes on hair that hasn't been bleached, and up to fifteen on pre-lightened hair. Pink fades more gracefully than most colours, going from hot pink to a soft rose and then to a barely-there pastel, so plenty of people get two looks out of one tube and don't rush to redo it. Cool water and a sulphate-free shampoo will stretch it further. Strong sun is what kills it fastest.

Vegan, cruelty-free and made in the UK since 1979

Every semi-permanent hair dye we make is vegan, and so is the vegan hair bleach kit if you need to lighten first. None of it has ever been tested on animals. We've been making this dye in the UK since 1979, and what's in these tubes is the same formula that went out in the 1980s, without ammonia, peroxide or PPDs.
