Festival Makeup

Festival makeup gets one real test, which is whether it is still on your face at two in the morning after sun, rain and several hours of dancing. Everything here is made in the UK by Stargazer, who have been supplying the festival and rave scene since the 1980s. Glitter, UV-reactive face paint, neon liner and wash-out hair colour, all cruelty-free. The shaker glitters, the Glitter Stars, the Neon Face Paint, the neon liner and mascara, the fix gel and the wash-out hair colour are vegan. The fix gel is the part most people forget to pack, and it is the part that decides whether the glitter lasts past the first band.

Festival Makeup That Lasts a Whole Weekend

Most festival makeup advice quietly assumes a bathroom, decent light and somewhere to put things down. A festival gives you none of those. What follows is the range sorted by how it gets used on site, starting with glitter, because that is what nearly everyone comes here for and it is also the thing most likely to end up on the floor of a tent by Saturday.

Festival Glitter and How to Keep It On

Loose glitter needs something to stick to. Our Face Glitter comes in a shaker so you can control how much lands where, and Chunky Face Glitter gives you bigger flakes that catch light from further away. Confetti Face Glitter mixes flake sizes in one pot, and Glitter Stars for Face and Body gives you shapes rather than scatter. None of them stays on bare skin for long. Put the Quick Drying Glitter Fix Gel down first with the sponge applicator, or use the Mixing Medium if you would rather turn loose glitter and pigment into something spreadable. To skip the loose glitter step entirely, Face Glitter Gel comes ready mixed in a tube with a thin nozzle, dries to the touch and is sweatproof once set.

Biodegradable Glitter for Sites That Ask for It

A lot of UK festivals now ask for biodegradable glitter, and some sell nothing else on site. Our Biodegradable Face Glitter is made from rayon rather than plastic, so it degrades over time, and it sparkles at the same level as the standard version. Chunky Biodegradable Face Glitter is the large flake equivalent. Both go on with the same fix gel. Worth buying before you travel, because on-site prices are what they are.

Festival Eye Makeup

Eyes are where festival makeup gets seen, since the rest of your face spends a fair bit of the day behind sunglasses or a hood. Neon Eye Dust Pigment is a loose, hyper-pigmented powder that reads as flat bright colour in daylight and fluoresces under blacklight after dark. Neon Liquid Eyeliner is smudge-proof and flake-proof with a thin brush, so a line drawn at six in the evening survives being rubbed at midnight. Neon Mascara does the same job on lashes and builds without clumping if you want it heavier. Set the lot with Makeup Fixing Spray, which contains aloe vera extract, glycerine and witch hazel, so it cools your face down as well as holding the colour. That matters more than you would think in a field in July.

Face Paint and UV Colour After Dark

Neon Face Paint is waterproof once applied, so it holds through sweat, and it glows under UV light rather than in the dark. The distinction matters. It needs a blacklight on it to light up, and plenty of festival tents and stages have them. It gives strong coverage in one pass and comes off with soap and water, which is usually the only removal method available on site.

Glitter and Colour in Your Hair

Hair is the easiest thing to change at a festival and the easiest to change back. Glitter Hair Spray is our most popular festival hair product and washes out with normal shampoo. Neon Hair Mascara draws streaks straight on where you want them. Neon Wash Out Temporary Hair Colour Gel covers more ground, reacts under blacklight, works on any hair type and lasts until the next wash.

What to Actually Pack

The short version is one glitter, one fix gel, one liner, one thing for your hair, and the fixing spray. That gets you through day and night without a bag full of pots. If you are building a festival makeup kit for the first time, buy the fix gel before you buy a third glitter, because glitter without adhesive is just glitter on the ground.

If you want to go deeper on one part of it, the festival glitter collection groups every glitter in one place, biodegradable glitter narrows it to the plastic-free ones, the neon and UV makeup range covers everything that reacts to blacklight, and face and body paint has the paints on their own.
