How Stargazer semi permanent hair dye works
Semi permanent colour coats the outside of each hair rather than opening it up. There is no developer, peroxide or ammonia in the tube, so there is nothing to mix and nothing that lifts your natural colour. Apply to clean, towel dried hair wearing gloves, leave for 15 to 30 minutes and rinse. Leaving it on longer will not damage your hair.
The 70ml shades come boxed with gloves. The new 100ml tubes do not, so have your own ready. Patch test 48 hours before you colour.
What it will and will not do
It lays strong colour over a light base and conditions as it goes. It will not make dark hair lighter and it will not cover white or grey. Grey needs opaque pigment and this is a translucent dye, so on grey it shows as a faint wash that rinses out fast. For grey roots, the Root Touch Up Hair Mascara covers them until your next shampoo.
Do you need to bleach first?
For the colour on the tube, yes. Semi permanent dye shows best on hair lightened to pale yellow. On unbleached mid brown hair, Violet still shows as purple, and every other shade comes out as a dull version of itself. On dark brown or black hair you'll see little or no colour. Pastels such as Soft Violet, Soft Cerise and Heather need a very pale blonde base. Lighten with the Vegan Hair Bleach Kit, then dye.
UV shades
Neon Lime and Neon Turquoise glow under blacklight, which is why they turn up at festivals and club nights. They only glow properly on pre lightened hair. Neon Turquoise is on its last stock and will not be remade.
Mix your own colour
Every shade mixes with the others, so you can make a colour we don't sell. The Yummy Colour 4 Colour Strip Kit is the cheapest way to try four at once.
Back in 100ml tubes
Magenta, Shocking Pink, Hot Red, Royal Blue, Coral Blue and Violet are six of our most popular shades. They return in 100ml tubes in place of the old 70ml, over 40% more dye, with the formula unchanged. Pre order now for dispatch in November.
